Virtual Machine Migration is a task in which the Virtual Machine is shifted or migrated from one hardware environment to the another. In Cloud Computing it allows users to migrate their calculations to distributed environment which will utilize more number of resources to complete execution quickly.
Google Cloud’s Virtual Machine Migration methodology provides a defined, repeatable paht for users to follow. Their is four-step migration sequence in Google Cloud. We firstly build assessment reports, plan and perform lift-and-shift migrations and finally replicate applications as cloud-native workloads.
Four-Step Migration Sequence
- Assess :- This step does that it assess the current environment to gain a solid understanding of existing resourecs and define migration move groups. It understands the negative and positive points of the current environment so that they can migrate accordingly.
- Plan :- In this it plans how to move the applications and create the basic cloud infrastructurefor your workloads to live. This planning usually includes identity management, organization and project structure, networking, sorting the applications and developing a prioritized migration strategy.
- Deploy :- It deploy’s the existing on-premise or cloud based servers in GCP leveraging one of Google Cloud’s recommended migration tools like Google’s Velostrata or cloudEndure’s Live Migration Tool.
- Optimize :- Optimize the newly migrated workloads to realize the true cost benefits and operational efficiencies that GCP can bring to the enterprise.
Virtual Machine Migration helps the users to distribute their workloads into different parts and gives the access to use more resources which speed’s up your activities and quickly execute them.
