Discrete Probability : Finite set of unique values

Continuous Probability : Infinite set of values

So, let’s get started …

Counting Methods – Counting Sample Points

It means how many sample points are there in the sample space.

Consider a coin flip S ={E(H),E(T)}

Flip a coin three times (or flip 3 coins once)

  • Sampling with replacement, means we are using the coin again and again.

How many different arrangements are possible ?

Direct approach: List all the arrangements and count them

HHH,HHT,HTH,HTT,THH,THT,TTH,TTT

How many arrangements begin or end with a head? #(S(H??) U S(??H)) ? = Again count them: 6
